Studio Display Panels
studio news  |  SEP. 28, 2007

Hot off the presses! I just finished printing my first round of display prints and putting them into our new studio display panels!!! I ordered the display panels a few months ago and installed them but I haven't had a chance to get prints into them until now. This has amused my friends to no end. They have been only too happy to rib me about my great work while lookeding into the blank displays. Well here they are, finally!!! If you're interested in something like this for your studio I got them from Nova Display in So. Cal. Speak to Val, he'll get you all set up. I'll update these once I get some track lighting installed, cool!

Oh Wiki You're so Fine
studio news  |  SEP. 26, 2007

Many communities and neighborhood associations are creating their own online presence by publishing a Wiki on Wikipedia.org. A Wiki is an open ended collection of web pages, images, links, etc. that anyone can create, add to, or edit.

I'm fortunate to live and base my studio in the great San Francisco neighborhood "North of Panhandle". Our neighborhood association "NOPNA" recently started it's own Wiki! Here's my new NOPNA Wiki page!

If you're in the neighborhood check out the NOPNA Wiki and get involved in whatever way you can, come to a meeting, etc.

Wikis are a great way to connect with your community. Maybe you're neighborhood already has one. If not, create your own! It's easy, here's how.

Foresthill, CA.
personal  |  SEP. 25, 2007

I always make it a point to do as much pre-wedding reconnaissance as possible. By pre-wedding reconnaissance I mean visiting the venues, churches, hotels, beaches, etc., for my upcoming weddings. By doing my homework I'm able to find the best spots and make beautiful photographs for my awesome couples. It's a great excuse to get out of the city after the wedding season. For my destination clients and when my schedule doesn't permit these fun getaways, I rely heavily on the next best thing - the internet and the onsite event managers. These are both great resources for information. But I love a road trip and the chance to check it all out for myself.

Lat week I blogged about our super fun consultation with Katie Muffett and her great family. This is the follow up post about our awesome overnight stay at Forest House in Foresthill, CA. Katie's father Mike set Wendy & I up with Patrick who owns Forest House along with Monica. They offer prospective wedding couples and the occasional vendor a FREE overnight stay and the opportunity to hang out and enjoy the FREE OPEN BAR! Smart business! Sign me up. Thanks so much Mike & Patrick for setting this up for us, we had a great time.

Welcome to Foresthill, CA.!

I love this town, they even have a fully operational 1970's Telephone booth! What a time warp, anyone seen Superman?

The Forest House sign greets arriving visitors. Big shout out to Forst House events magager Jessica Helms for sharing so much of her time with us! Wendy and I enjoyed meeting you and had a great time spending the night at Forest House. I'm looking forward to being back up there for Katie & Bryan's Dec. 1st, 2007 wedding.

In the morning we met Peter who was getting reday to marry Tara. They're friends and family were all rushing around taking care of last minute details, really nice people. Peter and co. are super chill and all love the outdoors. This is a perfect place for them to get married, you'll understand why when you see the amazing ceremony site. Their friends created these cool personalized wedding decorations, what a great idea. Best wishes Peter & Tara!!!

Peter & Tara's dog of honor, what a sweetheart!

This one's for you Mike! "Auto Parts Man" greeted us outside Starlite Cafe, where we had a great country breakfast. Whatever you do, don't ask to sit on the deck :-) Can you tell me what parts "Auto Parts Man" is made of?

Here's the entrance to the Forest House's amazing outdoor ceremony site.

What a great place to get married. The Sierra Nevada Mountains in the background are so beautiful. I do, I do!!

It just keeps getting better. This is a closer view from the alter. Wow!

They have this cute tent set up for brides to use while they're getting ready. I couldn't help noticing what a great natural Soft Box the tent made (photo geek!).

I put the tent to use and shot these relaxed portraits of Wendy, love that diffused light. Hey Maggie we found your tag!

The Red Dirt Saloon & Ore Cart Stakehouse are across the street from the Forest House.

This is the Old West! I love it. This building is right across the street from the Forest House. It houses The Red Dirt Saloon & Ore Cart Stakehouse and a great cowboy oriented souvenir shop.

A few detail shots:

This flag hangs on the ceiling of the Red Dirt Saloon.

I'm photographing this couple's wedding next year :-)

More details:

These steel doors outside the Red Dirt Saloon are 6" thick! In the 1800's the building was used as a Well's Fargo stop on the way to San Francisco. I love the colors of the weathered steel, and the cool shapes of the hardware.

What a combo!

This town has so much great Old West character! I can't wait to photograph Katie & Bryan's wedding and take advantge of the amazing backdrop the town provides.

The friendly crew at the Red Dirt Saloon waving goodbuy. Thanks for the hospitality guys, see you real soon!

After we checked out Forest House and the town of Foresthill, CA. we headed down to historic Auburn, CA. to have a look at the Pioneer United Methodist Church. Katie & Bryan are considering using the church as their ceremony site due to concerns about unpredictable weather in December and how it might impact an outdoor ceremony.

The church's eternity candle.

This is the oldest in church in Placer County, it was built in 1858!

Church interior.

This wall hanging in the church says it all.

Here's a fun collage of images from our trip. Thanks again to the Muffett family, Forest House, & Foresthill, CA. for showing us a great time!! See you all Dec. 1st.
