WPPI Recap & Random Thoughts
personal  |  FEB. 22, 2009

Wow, what can I say? WPPI , the Wedding & Portrait Photographer's International conference in Vegas this past week was nothing short of amazing. I learned so much about photography, business and about myself. Truly a growth producing experience. Not the kind of growths you have removed, you know what I mean!!! I averaged a paltry three hours of sleep a night!! Did somebody say sleep deprived? What a great opportunity to catch up with old friends and make amazing new ones.

This was only my second WPPI in 3 years and I have to admit I was on the fence about going. I'm so glad I did!!! The one thing I keep coming back to is the incredible commitment I saw from my colleagues. It was so exciting to be 1 of 11,000 photographers, all competitors, working together to constantly improve their craft, their art and their businesses. It makes me so proud to be part of an industry with so much vitality and energy. I want to tell every recently engaged couple out there looking for a photographer just how lucky they are to have such a committed, hard working and talented group of professionals to choose from!! I'll definitely be back at WPPI next year.

I stayed in Vegas after WPPI to shoot Sal & Taylor's incredible rat pack themed wedding on Friday. This was the perfect cap to an already awesome trip and easily the most fun I've had in a long time. I'm talking about shooting at the famous Neon Graveyard, in the dessert at Red Rock, retro clothing, a 1959 convertible cherry red Cadillac and oh, did I mention a gorgeous couple!! I could hardly sleep the night before their wedding because I was so wired, tired, nervous and excited. Sal and Taylor are the amazing, now husband and wife, team that makes up Salvatore Cincotta Photography based in St. Louis. This was their legal stateside wedding and in April we're off to Italy's Amalfi Coast to shoot their destination wedding!! Some of you may have seen Taylor and Sal's engagement session here before. After the wedding Sal & Taylor treated me to a fabulous 6 course tasting menu in the private chef's dinning room at Delmonico's Stake House. Yeah baby! Some things are worth going off your diet for ;-)

Shooting for photographers can be a bit nerve wracking! I'm just sayin ;-) These guys have become my dear friends. I'm sitting here watching the Oscar's and one of the director's summed it up well when he said his best projects are those that are 50% trepidation and 50% anticipation. That's exactly how I was feeling about shooting their wedding. Happily the day was amazing and the shooting went wonderfully. Stay tuned for their awesome images coming soon.

It's so good to be home and catch up on some much needed rest and hang with my beautiful dog Louisiana. Of course the minute I got home I came down with a wicked case of the WPPI flu that many people are suffering from. Don't ask me how I got it ;-) I'll never tell.

I'm experiencing a total NyQuil haze and trying to work while every opening on my head is flowing, not going to happen. In the background of the picture below is my facebook page, a torn open pack of Nyquil and my WPPI badge. I posted a fun picture I shot with my iPhone of me about to swallow a second round of NyQuil tablets on my facebook page. If you're one of my facebook friends you can see the close up, TMI version by clicking here ;-)

For those of you waiting for blog posts of my favorite images from your weddings, engagements and portrait sessions the wait is almost over! The photo flood gates will reopen this week. I've got some incredible images to share with you all. I can't wait!
