I shot this laid-back portrait of my good friend and colleague Dennis Urbiztondo while we were covering Katya & Josh's wedding. This image is so him! It's everything I look for and try to achieve when I'm making a photograph. It captures the true essence and spirit of Dennis so perfectly that I just had to post it!
Dennis is awesome! First off, he's a great friend with a big heart. I love it when we get the chance to work together! He's always willing to share his time and expertise, he's never competitive, and he’s truly one of the most generous spirits I know in this industry. Mucho hugs, Bro.
My number one goal when making any picture is to really convey the personalities of the people I'm photographing and create an intimate and personal experience. I want people to feel as though they know the people they're looking at in my photos even when don't. My clients and friends have told me that that's the way they feel when they look at my photographs. This is the biggest compliment someone can pay me, and I'm so glad and humbled that people feel this way about my images. To me, when that happens I'm succeeding at what I love doing more than anything else, being a good storyteller.

I just hired our new studio manager…and it's name is ShootQ!
Big thanks to Rachel LaCour for setting me up at the last minute to attend the San Francisco stop of the ShootQ Start-Up Party/Seminar tour last week! Wow, am I glad I found out about this software and attended the local start-up party. ShootQ is truly one of the best Studio Management systems out there.
ShootQ is designed by the Atlanta based team at LaCour. Andrew Niesen gave a fantastic hands on demonstration of this powerful tool to a room full of photographers plugging away at their laptops. Here are some of the great ways ShootQ will benefit our studio: It's Web-based (we can manage our studio when we're on the road), because it's fully integrated we can more easily organize job inquiries, provide online booking, create self-populating contracts & invoices on the fly, allow clients to log-in and update their own records, and streamline our production and workflow management. Just to name a few.
Many of San Francisco's best and brightest photographic talents were on hand to learn how ShootQ can help us all manage our studios more efficiently and therefore provide our clients with an even higher level of customer service. Being more efficient will free up more of our time and allow us to focus on what we do best, making extraordinary images for our clients.
Great meeting all the cool & talented photographers at the seminar, a big hello to the following peeps: Gene Higa, Ann Hamilton, Steven Maller, Juliet Nicole, Anna Kuperberg, Cathy Wise, Jillian Kay, Vasna Wislon, and Wes Riggins of LiveBooks. Vasna, thanks for letting me play with your iPhone over and over again! I can't wait to get down to the Apple store and pick one up.
I'm really looking forward to setting up this amazing tool and using it every day. I already know ShootQ will have a profound impact on the way I run my business, but I'm sure I'll find new and exciting ways to integrate it into my studio. I'll keep you posted on my experiences. If you're a photographer check out ShootQ today to see how it can help your business.
There are ShootQ Set-Up Parties coming soon to a city near you. Here's where they'll be next: Austin/TX, Dallas, St. Louis, Portland/Oregon, Portland/Maine.
ShootQ's tag line is "What Will you be Doing While ShootQ is Working for You?" I love that!! I'll be cooking. What will you be doing? Post a comment and let me know what you'll be doing while ShootQ is working for you :-)

This was a great day! I traveled up to Penngrove, CA. on Sept. 22nd to photograph Katya & Josh's beautiful wedding with my pal Dennis Urbiztondo. I've been looking forward to Katya & Josh's wedding since meeting them at their engagement session. We all had a blast during that session and it was easy to see what great people they are. This was a particularly intimate and sweet wedding for a a couple of reasons. First, the reception was held on the beautiful grounds of Josh's parents home making it really elegant, relaxed and intimate all at the same time. Second, and most special was the team effort among family and friends who all contributed their various talents and energy to make this special day a reality. I love my job so much! I'm honored that I have the opportunity to meet so many fantastic people and share such an important day with them. Here are some of the images I made that day.
Josh and his snazzy groomsmen giving the "Ocean's Eleven" crew a run for the money. |

A few laid-back portraits before heading to the church to see the beautiful bride for the first time:
Josh looking awesome. |

and his mom Sue. What a super sweet, incredibly talented, and modest person. Sue created all the amazing floral arrangements for the wedding. You'll see them later in the post. Her work is stunning. Sue get ready, I'm going to recommend you to all my brides.

I had to include this image to show off the groomsmen and their cool orange ties and vests, especially with Halloween around the corner :-)

As you can see Katya was an absolutely stunning bride.

This is one of my favs. I grabbed it while Katya was opening the church doors and looking out.

I love how relaxed, happy, and playful Katya & Josh were on their wedding day! They really enjoyed themselves.

Josh & Katya created these totally cool table number cards. I'm really impressed by the creativity and thought that went into these, what a great idea. Here's a collage of some of the best ones.

What a great couple, great family, great day, and great party. Thanks for making me part of it! Congratulations Kayta & Josh, I wish you both much happiness and many blessings.
